The world is changing, technology is advancing rapidly and societal norms are evolving. These are definitely positive factors that make Egg Donation a safe and viable method for building families. Reproductively challenged individuals or couples (gay or straight) unable to bear children on their own, have hope and can fulfill their dream of becoming parents.
As an Egg Donor, you play a vital role in bringing a healthy baby into this world. You may never meet the child that will be produced from your genetic material, but know that the joy this child will bring to another person is beyond measure.

Why Become An Egg Donor?
As an Egg Donor, you will be helping a family to have a healthy baby. There are many reasons someone needs the help of an Egg Donor. Some people cannot provide their own eggs, which is often the case for gay couples. For couples that may be able to provide an egg, it could be that they are afraid to pass on specific traits to the baby. These reasons are all deeply personal and you may not always know why someone has chosen to use an Egg Donor. Typically, women who seek Egg Donations have ovarian failure, congenital anomalies, or are older.
Regardless, you are helping a family build something that they could not do on their own. Sometimes the eggs will be used by the intended mother and other times they will be used by the Surrogate.
What Does Egg Donation Entail?
Egg Donors do need to undergo a medical procedure. A doctor will remove an egg or eggs from the Egg Donor. Then, those eggs will be fertilized in a laboratory. The embryos are then implanted using in-Vitro fertilization (IVF) into the mother or Surrogate’s uterus. Sometimes these embryos will be frozen for later use or implantation.
The women who become the Egg Donor typically only undergo the procedure when someone has chosen them to be the Egg Donor. It is important to know that the medical procedure is minor and will only take a few hours – most women do not need to stay at a facility overnight. In fact, the procedure itself doesn’t take more than an hour to do. Recovery is minimal – most women feel fine the next day.
Not all egg donation programs include aftercare to ensure that you are physically and mentally healthy after your donation, but EDSI does.

EDSI (Egg Donor & Surrogacy Institute) is a leading surrogacy agency in Los Angeles who works with Egg Donors. We’ve been working since 2002 to connect Surrogates, Intended Parents, and Egg Donors with each other in order to build families. Our focus is to ensure that everyone feels valued and safe throughout the process – including the Egg Donors. Egg Donors are an important part of our process.
If you want to be an Egg Donor in California and have questions about anything that you need to do to become an Egg Donor, feel free to reach out to our team. While we have an extensive list of questions and answers that you can navigate to using the side panel, we know that this list doesn’t cover everything, so we are more than happy to sit down with you and answer any questions that you have – we may even add that question to our list.
Throughout the surrogacy journey, we recruit Egg Donors and Surrogates to match them with Intended Parents. From there, we house everyone’s information in an anonymous profile. The Intended Parents and Surrogates only know applicable information about who you are – we never sell your information to anyone. You will be as anonymous as you’d like to be throughout the process. You will know if/when we use one of your donated eggs.
